Both modules have to be either 1GB or 512 MB, in other words you cannot mix and match. I had a friend whose monitor wouldn't work with his Gateway computer. Even though the monitor is new (and we can assume the cable is too) you can't assume that the cable doesn't have a short in it. I thought it was the DIMMs or something I tried every possibility of setup and I even replaced the new 1GBs with no luck so far they ALL work either by
