40gb HDD On IDE 1 Not Seen Except In BIOS

Thhe only way it will let me allocate a letter is if i select it as removable drive- then it appears in ‘My Computer' and asks if i want to format Not sure who your manufacturer is but you might want to check with them before buying a drive to see if the recovery media will work.
