Could be a problem with the motherboard. SATA drives do not have master/slave jumpers, so no worries there. The default is Off. I been surfing days looking for a utility that would reset my SATA drive WD2500aaks LBA code.

Make sure its set to boot from the SATA drive and not the 40GB. It's a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7, and the problem is, the BIOS doesn't see it, but when I boot from a system disk, be it Linux or Windows, then they both see IS THERE ANY KIND OF FACTORY JUMPER OR A FIRMWARE UTILITY OR SOMETHING TO RESET THIS DRIVE? I came home and the screen showed a stalled boot post display, and the last line said `Boot manager not found`. As long as your mobo supports both IDE and SATA and still has a connection for each, then you're fine. Wird verarbeitet... After some problem to connect the disk to a desktop (thanks to sate-esata), my disk recovered its full capacity of 250 GO !

At one time, both were bootable when they were the primary drive in the system (the Maxtor was Windows XP and the WD was Windows 2000). If not, you might look into Ubuntu Linux-it's quite Windows-like. Dell website has the A12 as the most recent but it is about two years old.
