Still, unless he's planning on a monitor upgrade, 1 GB is enough, 2 GB is wasted money. You may also be CPU limited in many games; I'm not sure what CPU you have. Suppose then that you upgrade your card to 2 GB and keep the same settings.

EDIT: If you can manage to spend ~$130 on a card, you can get a GTX560 SE. Nothing else will do. From what I've read the 2gb memory is useful if you have screen size greater that 1920x1200 and if you want to use High Antialias settings. That 280MB difference might sound little but it made all the difference to me.

they don't expect people to have more than that, and therefore write their games according to what the users will probably have for horsepower. I would only feel safe with 8GB or more. Not just because of his resolution, but the card wont be able to play higher end settings (more AA = more VRAM used), and thus will not need more VRAM. The amount the game needs for its logic is unchanged, so now you have 1.5 GB available for textures. But anyting beyond 2014... Already have an account?
