This is what sometimes happens--when the BIOS changes, Windows will install a generic driver because the old one no longer works.

You will have to check with the computer manufacturer to determine if there is a newer BIOS version available. If you can tell me where I can download the driver from it would be great. I may try to recover the operating system from the recovery partition of the HDD… I think the registry got hammered by the Roxio software… Anyone tried this yet? It will show DVD (audio_ts & video_ts) files when opening Windows Explorer. And since so many people seem to have this problem, it seems unlikely they all have hardware problems.
