Can't Read External Drive

I do happen to have a dead drive and if I plug a thumb drive or nano into it, nothing happens.

I am having the same problem, I CAN'T GET A STRAIGHT ANSWER ON HOW TO COPY THE FILES I NEED OFF THE DISK?!?!?!! This problem can be caused by partition issues on your external drive, using the wrong file system, dead USB ports, driver issues in Windows, or other problems. Got myself a new 2.5" SSD as external for my laptop, with the intent of putting files from my pc and be able to use them out and about, but couldn't Thank you so much.
