Dell Laptop E1505 Not Starting
Dell laptop has power but won't boot - please help Discussion in 'Hardware' started by JAFL, Mar 11, 2012. Would I be able to swap the memory(2x's,DIMM,1GB,533,128X64,8K,200) & hard drive (HD,120G,SATA,9.5,5.4,W080) into any current dell laptop? My main DELL computer won't boot up. keep trying to reboot when I had the problem it took 1/2. useful reference
If it doesn't boot then it is not the RAM. Do not drop or put down hard onto a surface. I'll come back here and let you guys know what happens. The reasons it worked had to do with old laptop BIOS detection so it's definitely a long shot.
I'm a novice with computer repair, so anything that involves physically taking the computer apart may be over my head, however I'm willing to give it a shot if it's not Found settings from another dell user with same machine and now all working ok. You have to reset the Date/Time but that's easy, a lot easier than spending $275.00+ for a motherboard. It is sounding more and more like a bad motherboard. But always suspect small spills of coffee, soda, and other liquids. When removing and refitting the CPU you need to unlock the CPU mount or when refitting the chip it wont connect right.
lights up for 3 seconds, then shuts off no sounds of any kind, nothing on the screen. That would mean that it is at least trying to do the BIOS Power-On Self Test (POST). Short of skidding your shoes across a carpet, you probably won't have enough static electricity to harm RAM. Wird verarbeitet...
Try replacing your RAM. see here unless there is an unused slot (or daughter board) where a video card can be installed. Is this in case the internal ac connection/supply is some how bad, at least we'd know the battery connection is fine? My laptop is not even 2 years old (Dell Inspiron e1505) I went to turn it on, and it would not start up.

That's basically what I'm asking here. I see a lot of posts that say "Update you BIOS settings - without any explanation on how to do that. If the light next to it doesn't turn on, you definitely have a dead motherboard.Mobo replacement procedures can be found in your Service Manual located on support.dell.com. Before going any farther than this (before opening the laptop ), we should wait and see if anyone else here has some suggestions.
