I quickly reconfigured it from "automatically install updates" to "download, but let me decide." Simply rebooting it doesn't work, BUT if I shutdown the notebook, and power it up again, then it works. I restarted the computer once again from the "power on" button. If the problem just started after the latest "patch tuesday" updates, then what jfk posted may have some merit, as Microsoft did pull some of the newer updates like KB3004394: http://www.ubergizmo.com/2014/12/microsoft-warns-windows-7-users-to-uninstall-glitched-kb3004394-update/ This site is completely free -- paid for by advertisers and donations.
