The system info should appear on a screen. I opened the machine and behind the jack plug seems to be closed with no removable parts. After taking your advice, what was different for me was that even though I selected the "remove files" when uninstalling the drivers for my modem and audio, it re-installed them anyway

Beyond installing the driver on the Dell site (I went thru the process 2 times just to make sure), what next can we try to help resolve this?Thanks.

On the "Audio" tab, for Sound Playback > Default Device click on the 'down arrow' and check to be sure the proper audio device is selected. I really want the sound. They just fail to tell you to UPDATE WINDOWS to the current Service Pack!!! When I access the sound option there is a green 'equalizer bar' which goes up and down to tell music is playing...but I can't hear anything.
