GPU may be malfunctioning, but it's VERY rare to have a gpu get damaged. Opening programs will be slower and response times will lag. I have the case open and a boxfan blowing inside it currently and it's still having the display artifacts with gaming/browsing and bluescreen/resets several times daily.
